Dirty Girl Snapshot July 5, 2010
We are cruising into an oddly normal July given the wet cold spring we just had. Just about everything is looking really good. The only real casualties on our farm are the beans. Oh yeah the beans, yikes! We usually are running haricots verts, yellow wax, and romano by now but they are not going to be here until August. We will probably get tomatoes before beans this year. The field I planted the beans in was too wet to disk for oh so long. We got in and planted maybe 3 weeks late, then the first wave of beans had to tilled under because the germination was so poor in the cold soil. So yeah how about 5 weeks late for beans this year. The strawberries have been epic, with customers dividing into two camps:
On a new front we are growing a new yellow storage onion that I hope to have at the markets through the winter. Right now we are bringing them to market as green onions. Starting July 11, 2010 Dirty Girl Produce will be attending the Jack London Square Farmers Market Sundays
Oh yeah the dry farmed early girl tomatoes are looking really good. Coming in August.
